Miles Webb Green

I am so excited to announce that my dear friend Angie just had her second child on Sunday. He is named Miles Webb Green and everyone is healthy and Ren is apparently psyched to be a big brother. I can't wait to get out to Oakland to visit the new addition to the family!

Facebook Status

I just have to say that people's status lines sure do say a lot about them. A few people in my "friend" list at the moment Obama was being announced as president were commenting about how they were "eating a chocolate eclair" or making comments about someone joining their photo group session. And then today a complaint of "how long will these I'm elated" status lines continue? Major history was made less than 24 hours ago!?!? AMAZING they are complaining about people having a reaction. This is going to affect the world. My favorites have also been "I am terrified for our country!!!!!!!!!!" and "I am clinging more tightly to my guns, family, and religion". and "it is the end of the world as we know it." WOW. oh wait one more by the brilliant self-less girl that posted the last one, "I'll keep my God, my freedom, my guns and my money....you can keep THE CHANGE." nice. my my my my. Not to mention, if they bothered to actually research Obama they would realize he is not taking away ANY of those things. amazing.

HISTORY

cannot be more excited, relieved and proud of America for coming to their senses this time. 4 years ago tears came to my eyes for a much different reason. Tonight it was because of something good. Finally something good. I will probably say more later. Right now I am too overwhelmed with happiness to say anything more!!!! What an amazing night. A very exciting night.

Obama in town

Zach and I were lucky enough to see Obama in person for the second time in the past couple of years here in Las Vegas. This time was particularly exciting with the election so soon. Yesterday we both voted. Today we stood in the hot hot sun (it is the end of october, c'mon fall!!) for about 4 hours to see a brief appearance and ever familiar speech by the next President of the United States. We, as most people, have most of the facts that are mentioned in speeches memorized by now (with the exception of the latest mention of McCain comparing Obama to Bush!!! haha!) but what was interesting was just being involved in the movement. The protesters were fun to "take in". I have included some photos. wow. In the middle of Obama's speech he had to stop and ask a medic to go up to the balcony bc it seemed that someone fainted up there from the heat. It is almost November and we were sweating and I have a sunburn. Have I mentioned my love for Las Vegas lately? On our walk back to our car we happened to be blocked at an intersection that we needed to walk across by the motorcade which was quite a production. I spotted Obama inside on of the 3 identical tan SUV's smiling and waving at us from behind the window. very cool. The guy in the vehicle behind—not so cool. Very mean-looking holding a HUGE gun. So, Clayton, you still have me beat, you know with shaking his hand and all, but I got as close as i could:) I honestly cannot wait for this election to be over. It is such a stress-out not knowing the outcome for SUCH an important election. I am very happy that we are in a battleground state but I am not getting overly hopeful bc of what happened last time. I remember standing in my office in Winston-Salem, NC trying to fathom the fact that Bush had REALLY gotten re-elected. But, I am very hopeful. Very hopeful we will get a smart politician for President very very soon.

Zombie Pub Crawl IV: Spawn of Death

upon entering a bar in minneapolis we appeared to be the ONLY non-zombies. about 1500 people dressed as zombies overtook the city.

One Year Ago . . .

It has been a year since our wedding day! I was asked by my husband to take last Friday off. All I knew is that he had gotten plane tickets. We were going somewhere to celebrate this anniversary, although i had no idea where. I wrote down my top 5 ideas of possible places about a month ago. None of them were right! I actually got through security, holding the ticket and not looking at it. We got to the cul-de-sac part of the airport where our gate was and Zach said our gate was one the gates. . . . I walked around and the last one I came upon had a long name. I walked towards it until it came into focus. Minneapolis. He was taking me back to the bridge where he proposed! We stayed and the adorable (and very very nice) Nicollet Island Inn. Right on the Mississippi. Surrounded by autumn foliage. About a 5 minute walk to our bridge. It was SO SO nice to be back there! When i walked in the hotel room the first thing I saw was the very familiar top to our wedding cake which I had not seen since last October 20th. Next to it was an identical bottle of champagne that Zach proposed with and the T&Z napkins from our wedding. Unbelievable. So so sweet. We walked all around Minneapolis for the next couple of days. The cake and bridge were my favorite part:)

Zach's 35th

It was another Blue Hawaii Birthday for Zach this year. . . . Christian helped me organize a surprise event at our place . . . complete with Blue Hawaiis and Blue Hawaii. The next night (on his actual bday) I surprised him with a night at the Stratosphere. Perhaps the only casino we had yet to enter for one reason or another (it is the tall space needle looking one). The reason for our visit was to see an Elvis impersonator, since on his 30th I surprised him with an impersonator show as well . . . in Gatlinburg, TN! So, we have progressed from Gatlinburg to Vegas . . . the next 5 year tradition will be the big 40! i wonder what city we will be in then. Oh and we cannot forget to include in the cheesiness of 5 year increment bday traditions that we got another caricature. on the top of the stratosphere. which i will not include in the post.

The Fam Meets Barack Obama

An example of why I should live in Nashville and not Las Vegas. My family all headed over to Al Gore's home after the debate and hung out with Barack Obama! Here is a photo of Clayton and Sloan at Al's house. Sloan, I thought you were a republican!!

Palin Flow Chart

Seriously, if (heaven forbid) McCain became President and (heaven forbid) something were to happen to him, would we really want someone who winked at the camera 3 times during a national debate to be leading the country? Especially these days? Not to mention someone who JUST got her first passport and has never left the continent and "has been at it 5weeks"? I am confused why this is an option.

SAYHILL

September 20, 2008. Nashville Zoo. My prediction is that these 2 will be very very happy.

david byrne in nashville

zach and i were lucky enough to catch David Byrne (songs of daivd byrne and brian eno tour) when we were in nashville for saylo's wedding. because the show took place at the ryman (former Grand Ole Opry) he quickly learned a couple of country standards, “There Stands the Glass” and “Half as Much,” to give a tribute to playing in music city in such a historic building. he was in all white as were his dancers - the dancers' role varied from esoteric dancing with office chairs to acrobatic routines to larger numbers involving the background vocalist. i thought the show was great and zach actually put it in his top 5 of all time. we grabbed a hatch show print of the tour before leaving and will add it to our growing collection.

Below is a blog he posted about his nashville visit:

In Nashville, I stopped by a great local record store, Grimey’s, and signed a bunch of old records and various odds and ends. Mostly though it was just to say hello. Kurt from the group Lambchop stopped by — also on his bike, as he lives nearby — and gave me a copy of their new CD. There was a lot of talk about the gas shortage in the area, which was news to me, as there has been no mention of it in the national news. Many gas stations have closed (temporarily, they hope) because they can’t get gas. Hurricane-related disruptions on the Colonial Pipeline, which runs from the Gulf to New Jersey, are the reason, so we are told. It seems pretty serious, at least around here. The guys at the record store said no one has been in lately since everyone is conserving gas. People spend hours searching for a station with gas, and then they have to wait in line, sometimes for hours. Some folks can’t get to work, as they are totally reliant on their cars for transport.
